I really don't understand how you could think it's "far fetched". I've shopped at those malls you mentioned in your post (that I know have had gang problems) and I've never had this happen to me. It seems that the suburban malls are either more laxed about security when it comes to groups of teenagers hanging around and bothering people or it's happening more than you and the other doubting poster thinks and noone is reporting it.

I didn't report it to security but next time I will. I thank those of you that suggested it to me as I wouldn't want this to happen to someone else.

Side note: ladysoverign, I think what other posters are just being aware of is sometimes people post on these forums for the sake of causing problems asking strange or controversial questions. See Terms of Service for more info.

Actually, that doesn't suprise me the malls in the suburbs are having problems with spoiled kids with nothing else to do. Though I know we all love it sometimes, I think that Youtube creates an easy access to making bad things "cool" and when parents aren't doing anything to monitor what their kids are seeing and doing. The result is WAY too many kids with no guidance and too much time on their hands. Especially the richer ones who get everything they want. It's a different kind of gang problem.

I remember the kids coming up from behind my HS class and wondering what happened to parents. they were all disrespectful and often times rude to the seniors and causing more problems than I remember we did as freshmen and sophmores. I remember I was glad to graduate when I did. But, that's just me.

Thanks deegers for the explanation. I didn't think my post bordered on trollish, but I guess people have been burned, so anything is suspect. For the record, I am not trolling. I just felt bad that it happened more than once and in the nice suburban malls, of all places!

I agree, I think that in both cases they were not a "gang" but really bored teenagers. I've walked past real gang kids in my old neighborhood who've been more respectful, so it shocked me to find this "attitude" in the wealthier suburbs.

Funny, I felt the same way growing up. I just assumed that where I was from, the neighborhood was changing, but maybe it's something else going on.

I am another who has never experienced anything like this, at either mall. I cannot even imagine it at Northbrook.

What's the likelihood you hit the jack pot at both places?

And yeah, if I did, I would go to Security.

A thought in my mind is that it happens because I look "young" or so I am told, or a case of very bad luck that it happened to me twice.

My hope is that Mall Security will care enough to do something if I have to report a problem in the future.

As I said before, just make sure you note a description, they will indeed do something or call the cops in.You were probably not the only one to get hassled that day.
