Raising kids in Evanston -- the pros and cons (schools, living in)

Hi all, I am curious to hear from people living in Evanston, especially those with kids, about their experiences.

Would you recommend Evanston as a place to raise a family? What are its major pluses and minuses, and how does it compare to other places you've lived? Feel free to talk about the schools, but also about the general experience of living there and what you think it gives your children. Do you ever consider moving away, and if so, why?
