I don't know the Chicago area well and I'd like to know if there are any suburbs or towns with commuter train access to Chicago that have a high concentration of houses built in the '20s, '30s, and '40s with at least a small backyard. We especially like Craftsman style houses with a walkable downtown. Thank you.

Oak Park, Berwyn, Riverside, Forest Park, etc. Berwyn has a central bungalow district full of historic bungalows with craftsman touches that was recently put on the national list of historic places.

My home in Downers Grove was built in the 1920s. Now, many of these homes are being torn down. However, you'll find a lot of 1920s-30s homes (and earlier) in downtown Downers Grove.

What's your budget? You'll find a ton in Oak Park or Evanston.
