Hi! We are considering moving to Barrington, but I would be working in Niles. Does anyone know how long of a commute that would be? Rt. 14 is a straight-shot, but it's a lot of stop-and-go. Last weekend we drove from Skokie to Barrington on Rt. 14 in about 20 minutes....I'm assuming that time would not be possible during the week during rush hour, but I'd like to know how much longer it would be. Thanks.

I have done similar commutes and they can range from 30-75 minutes, depending upon traffic.

Missy:

Barrington to NIles on Route 14 is about 21 miles. At 60 miles per hour that would be 21 minutes. And about five tickets per trip. Palatine, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Des Plaines and Park Ridge. On a more serious note: The fastest in the morning would be Barrington Road south to I-90 (east) to Kennedy, one $.50 toll (I-Pass) exit at Harlem Ave. North to Niles (27 miles). 40 minutes on a good day..........1 hour 30 minutes on a bad traffic day.........2-3 hour in winter weather. Consider something closer.....gas is going sky high and its not going down. 54 miles per day times one year of travel would be 14,000 miles a year at 22mpg that's 640 gallons of gas. At current prices for regular....$2,000 plus wear and tear on the car. Consider a closer home purchase.
Also multiply your travel time by your hourly income to find out how much productivity you lose by driving so much... I have driven 38 miles one way to employment (1990) with a company paying the expenses for the vehicle. However, the unproductive time away from my family and job was a total waste. Drive the commute at the time you would be traveling on a Monday AM to Niles and a Friday afternoon to Barrington. Those will be the longest travel times. Good luck!

Yikes ! I meant to say 60-75 minutes not 30 minutes. What were my fingers thinking?

Niles ( Think Milwaukee RD) does not have a Metra Train Station. Morton Grove would be the closest and that's a different line than Barrington.
