I will be moving to Chicago in August and in the middle of trying to pick a nice suburb. My work is in the Loop, wife is an IT professional and would want to look at starting work at some point in time. We have 2 daughters, aged 8 and 3. These are our considerations:
1. Good school in close proximity to home
2. Commute time to downtown
3. Budget approx. $1600-1800 (2 BHK)
4. We are Indians, prefer a place with some Indian presence and also access to Indian restaurants/groceries
5. Like a community feel/town house type set up would be good.

We've narrowed down on Schaumburg and Naperville. Appreciate any advice based on the above.

Look forward!

I prefer Naperville. Its nicer than Schaumburg. But I also suggest you might look into Lisle and Downers Grove too. They are on the Burlington Train line and are convenient to the loop and the I 88 corridor where there are jobs. There are a number of Indian Stores and restaurants in the area.

They're both nice areas, but I'd give the edge to Naperville.

Thank you both for the response. Looks like Naperville has an upper hand! Would anyone know about the Railway Plaza Apartments? Others on my list include Grand Reserve

Not sure about Schaumburg, but Naperville has a very strong Indian presence!

We lived there when they first opened (we were actually the first tenants in the SE building on Santa Fe right by the tracks), so I cant speak for how the apartments are now and how well they've held up. The apartments themselves were decent enough. Back then we paid a grand a month for a small 1BR, but it was nice. The hallways are secured (need badge to get in), youre right next to the tracks for easy Metra access, and super close to what Naperville and Aurora have to offer (read: EVERYTHING). The train sounds are audible for sure, but not too horrendous. The pool was kinda small but the rec room was nice.

Schaumburg has NO Metra connections while Naperville is known for having the FASTEST express trains, easy choice over having to deal with tortuous car commute via Kennedy and NW Tollway!

Agree, the commute to the Loop isn't even close.
