In my last suburb there was an aggregation agreement that the village negotiated for electricity. In Lombard there is no such agreement so I just have Nicor and Comed. I know a lot of the retail energy companies are very shady to outright frauds but are any worth switching to to save money for supply?

IME the savings were minimal and I found it a hassle to switch back once the ‘deal’ period was over. YMMV

No. Total waste of time. In Chicago they hire these total ghetto "independent contractor" scam artist who canvas the neighborhoods and try to trick residents into showing them their ComEd bills so that they can surreptitiously enroll unknowing residents into their scammy programs. The Savings is not usually worth it. We made this mistake about 20 years ago and switched from Peoples Gas to Nicor to try them out. We switched back to Peoples Gas at the first opportunity. We found Nicor customer service to be terrible.

Keep in mind that is a little different process now. Less scammy but really marginal savings. One time I signed up a couple weeks before ComEd published their rates. So I was locked in paying more LOL.

The aggregation was a great move, at first,... but for most, it ended up being a complete failure, at least in my municipality.

I think it is a great idea, but so confusing as ComEd would still supply the electricity, but the other company would deliver it or whatever. Since there is only one grid, it doesn't make much sense to halfway open up the utility.

Wireless power may be the future and would then entirely open up the market to competition.

To be fair I said it MAY be the future, heck it's been a dream since Tesla first envisioned it.

Very small steps first, but it's on the way.
