I wouldn't rule out the Tri-Cities, especially Batavia, if you're looking for a good music program.

OP - You can get a vibe by touring schools and attending public school/community events, and not jumping to conclusions about what cars kids drive or clothes they wear.

I have to agree with Chet's above conclusion that some of the most rambant materialism/judgmentalism can be found in communities with lower median home pricing, where item flaunting seems more socially accepted.

You'll find that many kids from more expensive towns with better schools are most focused on academic achievements and elite college preparedness, philanthropy and social justice causes, and rebeling against/downplaying the wealth from their parents that got them there. They are often not as concerned about their peers' cars and clothes, as many on this forum seem to think.
