Does anyone know if there are specific real estate agents that deal with rentals, and not just as an after thought? We will be renting for 1 year, and then buying a property, but ideally we would like to work with a realtor who knows about the rental market
Currently looking at Barrington, but that suburb is not set in Stone at this time. (We are moving from Texas
Thanks in advance.

It's pretty common in Chicago, but probably not for the suburbs. Especially if you're looking for a single family home, there are just not that many in any single market so you wouldn't be able to specialize in rentals.

OK Thanks for the heads up.. So it looks like I need to find a realtor who can do a good job finding a 1 year rental, and then they make bank when I buy a house a year later..
Thanks

As far as realtors helping with rentals typically only for higher priced rentals as they are going to make next to nothing renting you a $1,000 apartment. If your looking to rent a SFH in barrington I would think they would be interested in helping you. I would let the agent know your looking to buy in a year, looking to rent for now, develope a relationship with tehm and also they may keep in mind for the rental an area your potentially looking to buy in so you can kind of vet the area first.

Default Barrington

Yes thanks for that info, I'm looking to rent a SFH for a year and then buy, so they would make a good commission on the house purchase so it would be worth them helping with a rental for a year.

There might be. Some of the realtors in many of the upscale suburbs won't bother, there are very few rentals and they are not knowledgeable or geared for it. The realtor I work with in Berwyn/Stickney area is a jack of all trades. He is a landlord, a realtor, and also does some work for me to find renters, do credit checks, etc. Its how he supplements his income. Every thousand dollars helps. Some of the snooty agents would not waste their time but he has scrapped his way up and will find a way to make a buck here and there. Point is, you have to find the right one.

Awesome thanks for the message.
I'm starting to think the fact that we will be paying to buy a large house in a years time, might sway someone to help with the rental.
