Hi! My fiance has a reasoning test with P&G coming up soon for a position at their North Chicago facility. We are from Michigan and would be relocating to Illinois if this resulted in an offer, so are unfamiliar with the area beyond just general Chicagoloand knowledge gleaned from visits.

Our number one concern before we get too deep in the weeds here is whether it would be feasible for us to live in the city while she works up there. She'd be okay with commuting via Metra but would not want to drive. Is anyone familiar with North Chicago able to advise whether this would be possible through leaving a car there throughout the week or are shuttles available for P&G workers, etc? This would be a huge help to us because our real goal is to be in Chicago (or somewhere like Evanston that is highly connected). We're really only looking at neighborhoods/cities on the UP-North line to make this as easy as possible to do by train if need be.

Any other info would be much appreciated, too!

The problem, like most suburban locations, is the last mile. While Metra will get you to their station within that city, you have to find some way to get to the actual location. In this case, you can. The 564 bus http://pacebus.com/sub/schedules/rou...sp?RouteNo=564 goes down 14th Street, so you will get about two blocks from the plant. Where to live becomes tricky, as anything between Evanston and Highland Park is likely to b costly. Good luck.

Regarding location to live, I was about to suggest Waukegan unless you've got big bucks to live in the ritzy North Shore suburbs, but if you want to live in the city, I think Rogers Park is the most affordable of the neighborhoods along the UP-N line.
