Maybe I'm just bad at internet searches but it seems every mls site I find wants me to register and I don't want to register. I just want to be able to search for houses on the mls without having to give any personal info. I am looking in the north and northwest suburbs of chicago.

Thanks.

The MLS feeds to Realtor.com.

The Chicagoland Realtors used to allow the public access to a toned down version of their MLS - but that's no longer the case.

I always use the Trib to see what's on the market ... they don't have every house that's for sale... but they have a lot.

Chicago real estate listings and new homes for sale from the Chicago Tribune -- chicagotribune.com

and sometimes i browse Zillow.com just to see what's out there.

I also recommend ksgmac-- it's one of the few that lists really complete details, including schools. It also allows a variety of search methods-- including schools.

Yahoo.com has a real estate section as well. Not sure if you have to register, but they seem to have the most complete and up-to-the-minute listings. I've seen listings on Yahoo that didn't arrive on Realtors sites for DAYS. If you're looking for something specific, it can help to be a day or two ahead on discovering the listings.

I did check out that ksgmac ... that's a great site!!
and i have to say .... even though we still have very expensive homes in our lil village, I have noticed that the "average" home has really come down in asking prices.

Even if you choose to register for this one, it is a great search engine, that is user friendly, has the "basement" option, and the owners of the site aren't a-holes like the Remax agent who booted me off her site because I was honest with her and told her we already have a realtor, but are just using her site for comparisons sake. We didn't use an agent from the site below either, but I'd recommend the search engine highly and I'd give them a chance if you don't have a realtor yet.

I had one realtor from a website who booted me too. I don't see what the big deal is. This particular website had a search engine by neighborhood. Great info but she won't let me use it anymore.
