completely agree. public transit is great here. One of my favorite things as a recent transplant from Nashville (which is the opposite direction most are going). But taking the metra makes my life so easy most days.

You need to update your thread, Kluch! You ended up in Elgin? I enjoyed living there.

Glenview, Northbrook and Deerfield are all great places with outstanding schools. Wilmette would definitely mean a smaller and older home. The eastern part of Buffalo Grove would fit the bill as well, although it has Lake County taxes which are usually more.

You have a plethora of options. I would spend much time checking them all out. There are so many great areas and schools. Here is an example of one listing in top school district in Glenview just to give you an idea of price, etc. https://www.coldwellbankerhomes.com/.../pid_24739645/

Good Luck!

Haha! Which one?! I started multiple! Yes, we did. Not to side trail the current thread but fate had it's way with us in elgin. We found a foreclosure in very good condition in our price range in a nice, safe neighborhood near randall rd. It's a good distance from my wife's relatives. We have enjoyed it thus far, I guess we'll see how long we'll stay in this particular area.

OP--> I would consider a few NW Suburbs such as Mount Prospect or Arlington Heights. You'll have great schools and lower taxes (typically ) than Glenview and others mentioned. You can also throw in Park Ridge in the list as well.

I wish I had some clue how foreclosure works when buying? To me it feels like top secret.

Foreclosures can be acquired in many different ways, and the procedures vary by jurisdiction.
