For years I have been commuting to/from the city into south Lake County Indiana, and for years I've wondered what on earth the Circular "site" is in the farmfield behind the Atlantis Club on Rt. 30.

You may consider this Ford Heights, Chicago Heights or Lynwood. I've always assumed it was something for the farm, but the more I see it the more it reminds me of an underground bunker, waiting to open up should a missile be needed to protect Chicago.

I know the Nike Missile Sites have for the most part been decommissioned and/or removed entirely, but this seems different. The sites for the Nike missiles would not have been this subterranean.

Anyone know what this is just to give my brain a break from scenarios?

It's for air traffic control - specifically one of these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VHF_omnidirectional_range

Amazing. I would have assumed anything like that was an old Nike site.
