Anyone know of a good restaurant to get Lake Perch, preferably in the Western burbs. Lots of places close to the lake but not having any luck finding places out here in the burbs.

Something similar to the now closed Phil Smidt's in Whiting, IN.

Probably the spot that most reminds me of Phil Schmidts is Petey's Bungalow, especially their original location in south south suburban Oak Lawn off of 95th St. They have Lake Perch and Frog Legs available all the time. Their newer location in SW suburban Orland Park has identical menu at 159th & LaGrange Rd -- About Us

Many other spots in the region still have a similar style of fried lake perch:

Indian Head Park, which is west of LaGrange / south of Western Springs is home to a classic dinner / steakhouse , The Wolf's Head -- Dinner

Draft Picks in Naperville, west of 59 off North Aurora Rd has perch on Fridays -- https://draftpicksnaperville.com/daily-specials/

Shrimpys in nearby Aurora at the NW corner of Rt 59 and New York St also has perch -- https://www.seafoodshrimpys.com/

On Bluff Lake in Antioch, which is far NW suburbs, darned near Wisconsin -- Steitz's "Resort" Restaurant & Bar

If you are near Mundelein try Family Fisheries on Lake St south of 176 -- https://familyfishery.com/menu

Awesome list, thanks Chet! We're going to try to make it to Petey's this week. Will let you know how it turns out...

I have not been there in a while. I think they have shrimp & catfish, maybe they have seasonal specials for perch. Years ago they would do smelt in the spring. I think only a couple of carry out place in the city like Fish Keg in West Rogers Park or Hagens in Portgage Park still do that...

Johnson’s Door County had great fish, but business is now Lawrence’s Fish and Shrimp. The menu has changed and no longer offer lake perch, walleye or Lake Superior white fish. I’m disappointed with the menu change. Advise against getting “fish chips” on new menu as this is not anything like fish and chips. After going to Johnson’s Door County for many years, I’m looking for a new location in the western suburbs to get good Great Lakes fish.

Not in the Western burbs, but L Woods in Lincolnwood has a fish fry with lake perch on Friday nights, and I believe they have some other lake fish all the time. Nice Northwoods vibe, too. https://www.lwoodsrestaurant.com/menu/dinner-menu/
