Markham isn't bad; 4 generations of my family have lived there, they are all professionals including myself.
Never saw any murders, etc. violence is minimal in my opinion
In those rich affluent neighborhoods they have pedophilia, mass school shootings, etc.
It's all in your perspective.
Also work in Ford Heights and never got robbed.
Even left car doors (all 4) with a car load of clothing, purses, etc. and nothing was taken, actually my KEYS WERE LEFT IN THE IGNITION!! This was in Ford Heights at an elementary schools.
Yes, these areas may be poor but they get a bad rep from people that don't really know what they are talking about.

This isn't even a South/Southwest suburb - Westmont. Looks pretty nice. Not sure why it's so cheap.

I grew up in the south west suburbs and lived there as an adult for five years. If you found some good apartments with good neighbors that's awesome but anything can look nice in a picture go visit and you find out the truth when you research and look at crime stats and sex offenders. Under a 1000 these days is getting close to low income and that attracts a lot of crime(not saying low income people are criminals) if me and my wife divorced 1000 would be my budget. There are not enough nice apartments in the suburbs . My last apartment was 1350 for a studio in hoffman estates in a decent apartment complex and one bedrooms were 1500. I am just saying as someone that has lived in different suburbs I had trouble finding apartments around 1000 that I felt safe at. Maybe I am extra sensitive to areas that are rough around the edges. But anyways I see one in Darien in your list by the Chuck e cheese nice area . Use to go to the service merchandise and venture when it was there. They moved the Fuddruckers. Just showing I know the south west and north west suburbs.

I would imagine some of the larger older complexes might have more problems. It doesn’t necessarily make it a bad part of town, but you could be right about a particular complex. That said, I know at least there’s no harm in checking these types of places out of ones budget doesn’t go much higher.

Why racist? The OP didn't mention race once? I'm wondering if YOU are the one who's racist?
