Why do Democrats appeal their huge property tax increases but then keep voting in the same Democrats who raise their property taxes? Serious question.

Why does anybody in Illinois do anything? The state is floundering due to the Democratic machine (along with some complacent Republicans). All the evidence is there. And yet what did people do? Vote in a Democratic governor and increase Democrat representation in the state house and senate (my native Tri-City area voted in a Democrat at the federal and state level, which tells me they have transformed into horrible limousine liberals).

I get why state employees vote these swamp creatures in. But why do OTHER people who are not on the state dole do it?

What is good for the group is not always good for the individual. It's the paradox of taxation - it's not just democrats, it's humans.

Wouldn't say it's good for the group or individual really but we can agree to disagree.

Partisanship and partisan affiliation have increasingly become associated with making a values statement. Economic and other issues have become less salient for many over time, unfortunately. Wealthy Democratic voters are often just as upset about spendthrift public officials and higher taxes as Republican voters. However, virtue signaling and tribalism outweigh logic among these voters.

As we saw across the country, suburban Republicans were punished for President Trump's unpopularity. Ironically, those suburban Republicans, more moderate Republicans who were more likely to oppose parts of the President's agenda, were the most likely to be defeated during the midterm elections. In Illinois, scores of local Republicans lost their re-election campaigns—heretofore popular Republican politicians on county boards and elsewhere. Most people don't care about the issues. They operate on their emotions and their chosen identity. I think it is ridiculous—and you probably do too—but most people are not sophisticated, unfortunately.

Also keep in mind how disengaged Illinois voters are. Usually more than 1/2 don't vote at all and a lot of the rest just vote Democrat because their friends or teachers tell them it is cool or because they are afraid of being ostracized or called a racist sexist homophobe... if it is found out they support Republicans. Well informed and reasoned voters are a very small minority and many of them have already given up and left the state. That leaves connected machine people as a major voting block.

In short very large portion of citizens too lazy to become informed voters, republicans who gave up and fled the state, leaving machine people.

That’s quite an interesting narrative you have cooked up above.
