Hi,
I have a 5 year old moderately autistic son and a 3 year old neurotypical son and I'm wondering about where the best schools are in the Chicago area for special needs kids. We are actually in the palatine high school district which I've heard has a great special Ed. Program, but I was just wondering about other school districts that might be better overall. The Elementary school where we live in palatine has got bad reviews from parents so I'm considering moving if it's worth it for my 3 year old also. I've heard Naperville is great.
thanks!

There is a private school in palatine that is really good. It is only up to eight grade though. Called quest academy.

There is a north suburban meetup for parents of autistic children. You may want to join and ask there. Their experiences are not necessarily limited to the north burbs.

North Suburban Parents of Kids with Autistic Spectrum Issues (Evanston, IL) - Meetup

There is also a support group for dads of autistic children in the Chicagoland area.

Indian Prairie Dist 204 is known nationwide for their programs. It's in Naperville/Aurora. People move to this district for this distinct purpose all the time.

A friend moved to Woodstock because of a special program offered there for her autistic daughter. That's some time ago tho but another town that may be worth looking at.

Thanks again. I know Palatine school district is very good for special Ed and so far we've been happy here. I am just looking into other possibilities if we ever want/need to make a move.

My brother lives in LaGrange Park and has a 5 year old autistic son as well. I'm not sure of the name of the school but I know it is specific for Special Ed school in LaGrange Park or LaGrange.

Ditto Indian Prairie 204. I've also heard the Palatine school district has a great special education program, but if you don't like the elementary school you're zoned for, you shouldn't send your kid there. You could talk to the district about letting your kid go to a different elementary school in the district. If one school has meet the ayp and the school you're zoned for does, they have to let you.

Right next to Palatine, Twp HS District 214 has excellent special education services. If you're willing to look this far up north, Gurnee schools also have a great special education program, there's 2 different school districts there and I'm not sure how they compare in terms of special education programs but Warren HS's is very good.
