We are an outdoor family. We cook, and eat, and play outside in the yard everyday during the warmer months. We enjoy the towns with a nice downtown which puts us either on the Metra lines, Fox River, or Chain o' Lakes. But places like Wheaton and Glen Ellyn don't really match with us. St. Charles really fits the bill, I hate to do well and septic, but I can. Lombard has a few larger properties, but I think that town is going in the wrong direction.

I realize, I am all over the place, but that's why I posted. I need more voices to talk it out with. Call me crazy, I am. Eclectic?, certainly. Outside the box?...I never lived in a box so I struggle to relate with people who think inside the box.

That is good to know. again, 1/2 acre is my minimum. But yes, we do use a lot of water. Pool, slip and slide, gardening, etc...i will suffer no matter what, especially with a well, but that is happy suffering, just like having to cut a half to full acre of grass every week. Eeeeewww!

Other places that might have larger properties are New Lenox and Palos Park/Heights. The latter has a lot of homes with big lots, but I think your taxes would probably put you in the $7-8k range.

I don't think you are going to find it. Not with that much land. I'm not sure why you need it maybe you just need a big back yard.

Maybe look in West Chicago or Winfield.

I think you spelled John Cusack wrong.

I have my own parallels to him, that's why your thread caught my eye.

I grew up in the same neighborhood as Cusack, just a block or so away. Anyway, $300k for something beyond a 'starter' is going to be pretty far out. It's definitely not going to be on the North Shore or in another particularly upscale area.

My grandmother and aunt knew the Cusacks well. My cousin went to high school with him and Piven. Haven't seen a whole lot of either of those guys lately.

But yeah, you are going to have to give up something, whether it's price, land size, or location. I think you can get 2 of the 3, but not all 3.

What about Elburn? There are a lot of houses out there available and even more land to build on if you wanted. Schools are decent (Kaneland District 302) and it's not too far from Geneva/St. Charles.

It is a bit out there but Rt 47 can take you to all the major highways and there is a Metra stop if you want to go into the city.

Here is one example of a nice house on nearly an acre and taxes right around 7000:

It is well and septic but I am sure that there are other options in the town like this. It is getting to be an up and coming area and probably won't feel that far out there after too long.

I’m in the same boat...and I looked pretty much everywhere. Me and my wife decided that Plainfield and Oswego area are gonna be the best for us...and I don’t think I’ve seen a house 300k with 1 acre of land. Lol. Might as well go near RT 47 or past Kankakee. I will be watching this thread. Haha
