Where will you work? How much can you spend? What are your wants/needs in a city?

The "west suburban area" is comprised of about 100 or so suburbs of varying size, expense, quality, density, ease of transportation to city, proximity to farmland, etc. You'll need to be a lot more specific about your needs before we can of any use to you.

I will work and possibly go to college and my little ones will be in school and daycare. I am looking for rent $1,270 to $1,300. My grandmother lives in the city and she is sick.

You're considering Oak Park, Dixon, and Sterling??? It sounds like you really don't know what you want. OP is nothing at all like the other two. I hesitate to even call them Chicago suburbs.

Dixon and Sterling are probably 100 miles west of Chicago, theyre not suburbs by any stretch, nor do they have public transportation nor access to Chicago (other than the highway). Steer clear of them if you want to stay close to Chicago!

Id recommend you look at Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Bartlett, Schaumburg, Geneva, St. Charles. Maybe even Winfield, Warrenville, Lisle...
