Hello everyone! We recently moved to Naperville and we are researching the Spanish dual immersion program offered in district 203. Currently, we are renting a house while we wait to find a home to buy, hopefully in one of the lottery districts.

Can anyone with experience applying to the lottery give me any insight on how hard it is to get in, is there a massive number of applications for each school? To my understanding, Elmwood, Beebe, Steeple Run and Mill street only take kids within their district. Riverwoods draws from all other districts so it seems as if Riverwoods would be the most difficult school to win a spot at.

We really love a few areas of Naperville that would put us out of a district only lottery, meaning we would have to apply for the general lottery of Riverwoods. My guess is, its near impossible to get into Riverwoods…..

Does anyone have any idea how long the waiting lists are? Do they ever move?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Why Riverwoods? I don't have kids, so I am not very knowledgeable on how schools work, but from what I know Naperville has excellent public schools...

Riverwoods is the magnet school. Beebe, Elmwood, Steeple run and Mill street only allow kids within their boundaries. So, all the other schools feed into Riverwoods which makes it more difficult to secure a spot in.

I tried to contact the director of the program about the wait list and she was not helpful.

I was unaware and have never read anything that Riverwoods is a magnet school. Is that accurate? I thought Meadow Glens was home to the gifted program. Or are you just saying Riverwoods is the "magnet" school for dual language that doesn't feed into a boundary school?

My kids aren't elementary school age yet, but they feed into Elmwood, which seems like a pretty good school both from word of mouth and from the data at Illinois Report Card. Why not just try to buy a home (or rent if you're able to break your lease and rent a different home) in one of the schools where you're required to live in the boundaries? Or are there certain subdivisions you're targeting for your purchase and they don't feed into Elmwood, Steeple Run, Beebe or Mill St?
