Bensenville varies dramatically by street/section. Some spots are very nice, with houses that are HUGE, quiet, safely tucked away right be gorgoeus old private country club that the FOrest Preserve runs most affordably. Other houses are literally sandwiched between O'hare runways, congested freight RR, and have migrant worker rentals up against 'em...

If you are only in the area weekly where are you the rest of the time? Not saying that trouble only happens when you are not around, just be aware that certain sections are like the "secret bargain of eastern DuPage" while others are no bargain at all...

As I said, the portions of Bensenville that are more secluded are pretty the bargain of Eastern DuPage -- bigger lots, nice homes. The stuff that abuts the more obvious problems is no bargain. There is a "dead zone" that stretches from the airport. Mostly gang wannabe types from unsupervised homes, but some real gang activity too, drug dealing type stuff, not so much the crazy gun based turf wars and stuff in real troubled areas.

The highschool is pretty much exclusively Fenton. Some people love it. Much smaller than York to the south or the high schools to the north in Elk Grove Village. Better facilities / mix of kids than schools to the east. The test numbers are nothing to cheer about, but not everybody is into that.

I have a question. I drove through Bensenville recently on Irving Park road, and there was a small section near O'Hare where everything was completely abandoned. Almost every house and store on Irving Park Road was boarded up. What is the reason for this? Is O'Hare expansion going to take over their land?

I'm curious. I've seen the term "gang wannabe" before. How do you tell the difference between a wannabe and a real gangbanger?

There's no clear distinction between them, but a general assumption can be made. In general, if you're in a decent to upscale suburb, or a "safe" neighborhood, and you see a bunch of fellows dressing in hip-hop clothing hanging in groups - chances are they are "gang wannabes". Many of my friends used to dress like this, but they only wore the clothing associated with gangbangers, i.e. baggy jeans or long shorts, extra large shirts, tilted caps, etc. But they pose no real threat to people. Most of them do not carry guns or knives, and are just good people caught up in hip-hop fashion. They just wear the style to "Look cool and tough".

Real gangbangers, on the other hand, are most commonly found in neighborhoods like Englewood, HP, Austin, etc. These are the people who carry guns and will shoot first ask questions later.

However, like I said earlier, there's no clear distinction that can differentiate between the two. The best I use is what type of neighborhood I'm in, but even that may have some faults.
