We recently moved to Naperville and are planning to switch cell phone providers. I currently use Sprint which is somewhat spotty in Naperville. Does anybody know about cell phone coverage in the West suburbs? We spend 80% of our time in Naperville, but are frequently in Burr Ridge, Wheaton, Warrenville, Winfield and Woodridge.

Sprint has some issues. Not as many towers. The same thing that came up the similar thread generally holds true in Naperville too. Too many people with a NIMBY attitude about towers. ATT / Cingular has more towers. US Cellular is pretty good too, but you really need to check with neighbors as different neighborhoods have weird "black holes" for the different carriers.

I have US Cellular and I find there are two black holes - Rt. 59 in West Chicago (south of north ave and north of roosevelt and a bit further east on Washington/Geneva Rd) and on Rt 34 near the RR tracks, just west of Fox Valley Mall. Not sure why but for years this is what I've found. Had Nextel years ago and it was awful. My sister has Verizon and likes it, she lives in the western burbs too.

Verizon has been by far the best as far as reception over other cell companies I have tried. For some reason I get service almost anywhere. I even got calls at the Grand Canyon last summer without a problem. I have had no problem with getting or making calls in any area of Metro Chicago so far (18 months so far with this company).

We have had no problems with AT&T at all.

Funny you should mention the Grand Canyon. Last year I was on a rafting trip down the Colorado River and had excellent reception even in the remote rocky section. I can be 2 miles from home and in a black hole but down there it was just fine. Go figure.

Ditto. We've had Verizon now for 3 years and love it. Sprint sucked!!!! Not only did they have the most dropped calls Ive ever experienced, but they screwed up our bill soooo many times that we had enough and deep-sixed those turds.
