My husband and I may be moving to the Chicago area in the near future with his work, and so far I have really liked the St. Charles/Geneva area. My husband is a die-hard fly fisherman, so I'm trying to find out if there are any trout streams around this area. I know there are a couple of forest preserves with ponds to fish in, just haven't had much luck looking for streams. If there aren't any in the vicinity, about how far away would he be able to find one?

Thanks!

Not sure about trout, but I see many people (in waders) down in the Fox River that are flyfishing. Below the St. Charles and Geneva dams are popular spots. Believe it or not, even some Muskie have been pulled out of there. Ive caught everything from walleye to perch to largemouth to baby muskies. Some decent fishing around those parts!

You'll have to head up to Wisconsin for trout, Illinois rivers and streams are too warm for trout.

As noted, no trout streams in Illinois (there may be a few small streams in the northwest corner of the state that hold trout, but those who know about them keep it close to their vest).

Wisconsin, however, is full of trout streams. Get a copy of "The Flyfishers Guide to the Trout Streams of Wisconsin" (not sure if that is the exact title) and go from there. Some are day trips, others are overnighters, but there are plenty. If he's interested in salmon, the rivers on the Michigan side of the lake have salmon runs in the fall, and I know some flyfishermen hit those.
