I'm from Michigan, and possibly taking the family to Chi-town in a few weeks to visit the Aquarium. I need to know where the Indo-Pak restaurants are. My wife and I love Indian food, but like wallet-friendly prices. Having lived in Toronto (Canada), we found many hole-in-the-wall (albeit delicious) indian restaurants that had menu prices in the neighborhood of $5/entree ala carte.

Anyone aware of the neighborhoods/restaurants I should look out for?

Thanks!

Take the red line to Loyola, head south to Devon, then west. It'll be like walking down Main St. in Mumbai. Have fun.

there's place called Hema's kitchen...they used to be cheap but since they've gotten all the press, they jacked up the price.

you gotta becareful cuz the dish might be $14 but they don't include rice or naan, which is another $2

I highly recommend India House 2809 Butterfield Rd in Oakbrook, IL 60523. (630)472-1500 You can Google it for directions. They have an excellent buffet on Sundays. The food is delicious and doesn't break the bank!

There are several good, low priced Indian restaurants in Schaumburg at the intersection of Schaumburg and Plum Grove Rd. They're named "Indian House" and "House of India" (very unique names ).

I would absolutely not recommend Hema's Kitchen. That and Standard India had some of the worst Indian food I ever had.

India House is REALLY good (there is also a location in Chicago), but again, it is higher price than what you are looking to pay.

If you go to Devon there are a ton of places that have good Indian "fast food" for pretty cheap. I would just recommend going and walking around. (West of Western on Devon)

Really? I always get the Chicken Vindaloo at hema's and its always been excellent for me.

India House on Grand Ave. is good I agree, but slightly overprices. If you dine in, they give you the naan and dipping sauce which is to die for! I heard that only chicago location serves this up though

My fiance (who is Indian) and I went to Hema's in LP. I had the chicken tikka masala and he had lamb something..... his was OK, mine wasn't edible. We tried it one more time....still didn't like it. I haven't had the chicken vindaloo though.

India House is a bit overpriced. I think for buffet though, it's the best quality.

Ashiana in the Western Burbs is also good.
