What do you think is the cheapest grocery store in the chicagoland area?

Of the three choices presented, I would choose Super Target or Target for the best prices.

Ultra and Food for less for good sales.

Super Walmart usually prices the food cheaper for somethings (not produce most of the time), but they do offer price match so all you have to do is bring the sales papers from other grocery stores with you and they will honor those prices.

Agree that Food for less have good sales .. Las Chiquitas (http://www.laschiquitas.com/en/locations/ - broken link) are also dirt cheap

Costco also has good deals (for things you can buy in bulk, that is)

I find Ultra foods to have the best prices and when they have their 12/$10 sales (84cents) you can stock up on lots of good basic items. I also use Costco/Sams and when they have their coupon books out that is when you can get even better deals!

In these economic times, I don't think you can shop at just one store. I shop at Aldi for a lot of stuff and also shop at Jewel. When shopping at Jewel, I try to buy the sale/preferred card items and utilize coupons whenever possible. Attended a coupon seminar put on by Jill Cataldo, who does a radio spot with johnny b. she said that by using coupons she can shop better at jewel than at woodmans, or walmart! she has a blog and website supercouponing.com which provides some good pointers. there is no charge for the info. she puts on her seminars at local libraries etc.

SGR, thanks for the coupon site. I use coupons as much as I can. My local stores do not double them sadly. Does anyone else have any good coupon site suggestions?

You have got to start shopping aldi. Some stuff I honestly cannot tell the difference between brand names. Other stuff, not so good. But you should try it. We are saving some serious $$. They only take cash or debit card though. And they are only open til 8 at night. Of course you can't buy everything there. Lots of staples though. Good selection of frozen fish.

I shop Butera for all my ethnic foods and pasta. I find they are mostly cheaper than the other chains. But every store chain has their own "bargains" or things they regularly stock on sale. I really like our supertarget but again, they don't stock certain items. They have the best prices on lean cuisine though.

Aldi isn't cheap- they're cheaper on their off brand items. I don't claim to be a health nut, but check the sodium, sugar, and fat content on the off- brand items you buy from Aldi- they're normally much higher.
