I'm a 25yo dude who just moved to Naperville for my career from Los Angeles, CA. It's a pretty permanent move and so far I really like the area but I'm having some issues meeting new people and making friends since most of the people I work with are older and already have families.

I have many friends in the city but I'm looking for some ideas on how to meet some people locally. I checked local community colleges and stuff but not being a resident I'd prefer not to pay $300/credit hour just to take some workshops and foreign languages and stuff.

I'm open to suggestions. Thanks

What kind of car do you drive? If there is a local club, feel free to join a forum and participate in local cruise nights/hangouts. Ive recently met up with a local SVT owners club and have met a lot of new people, and its been a lot of fun. Of course, the cruise nights are off until April, but many still get together on the weekends to have a few beers and chit chat/hang out. If youre a fan of any local sports teams (ie Bears, Cubs, Sox, Blackhawks, etc), they often have get together on game nights at, say, Buffalo Wild Wings (or some equal place). Thats another good place to meet new people with something in common. Are you a member of a church? If so, they often offer a lot of get-togethers (depending on the church). And if all else fails, downtown Naperville has plenty of packed and lively bars on the weekends that you can just socialize/meet people at.

Try Willow Creek Church which is a non denominational church. They have a satellite location in Wheaton and their main one is in South Barrington. They have large adult singles groups broken down into age ranges (IE: 25-35 years old). They do a variety of interesting things incl. dances , trips, restaurants, etc...

Try hitting downtown naperville on the weekends. It's SLAMMED with people, mostly in their 20's. Not to mention some of the best looking girls you will ever come across

You might want to join LifeTime Fitness... they have a lot of young, active members and even a new online connection tool for people looking to meet up and work out. Plus there's lots of organized classes and events that would help you meet new people.

Lifetime Fitness and Downtown Naperville weekend evenings (try Jimmy's, Rizzo's for your age group). Another alternative, based on your interests is a website called www.meetup.com Here you can find groups interested in just about anything from wine tasting, to euchre playing to what ever your heart desires. Check it out. Good luck, you'll be in the swing of things in no time.

Would live in Chicago's LincolnPk; would arrive at office <6AM and leave >7PM...some suburbs can be great for families; even desirable suburbs generally suck for singles, esp if an affluent professional

Many/most single professionals who work in suburban corridors choose to live in nearest major city for social reasons....most singles who work in SiliconValley drive ~35-50mis each-way daily from homes in SF; most singles who work in Greenwich drive ~35mis each-way daily from Manhattan

Most recently separated/divorced guys' first move is to flee suburbs, no matter how upscale and desirable, for an apt in an upscale part of city

hsw has a good point. The suburbs are really a tough place to meet people if your single as there aren't enough places to hang out at. Relocating to the Lincoln Park or Lakeview area would be better, as those places are full of singles. Everywhere you go, from Grocery Shopping to doing your laundry will have you surrounded with people you'd want to meet (or try to).

I lived in the suburbs and found it's really meant for families, not singles, and felt uncomfortable which is why I left.
