If you want to live in a great community, try Oak Park. There is great architecture, from a new condo, townhouse, to a vintage bungalow, or even prarie (Frank lloyd-Wright) style home, Oak Park has it all. I can easily get downtown in 11-19 min on the Cta Green or Blue line, Metra, or 290 Eisenhower expressway. We love our block and have great neighbors. We have children but there are a lot of singles on our block and at our church.

Cool I Can Help!

Hi,
A website to look at is realtor.com, they have a lot of tools for anyone that is going to move. Some good subarbs would be Mt. Prospect, Park Ridge, Des Plaines, Oak Lawn, Chicago Ridge, and Oak Park. These towns are fairly close to the city. I used to live in Mt. Prospect, and took the train to work, and the commute was never too bad. I also once lived in Park Ridge, and you can take the train from two differnet stations, or you can take the cta (right accros the street from Park Ridge in chicago) All of the other subarbs I mentioned have commuter trains running daily as well. The cta can be accesed at Oak Park as well.

If you are going to live in the City the North side is alot nicer than the southside. But if you are going to live in the suburbs make sure you go to Dupage. (unless you live on the lake on the north shore)

Compared to Cook and Lake county, Dupage has lower unemployment rate, higher home values, higher household income, and a higher educated popuation. And MUCH smaller percentage of registered sex offenders.

Default good suburbs

You should try Elmwood Park, river forest, Franklin park, over Oak Park, Oak Park is too close to the city. The commute would be easier because you would be closer to the metra.

The most reliable way is to get access to some recent sales comps in the area. If the house is priced fairly, start your negotiating around 10% below their asking price.
