Hello, I am planning on moving to Darien in the next 6-7 months. Can someone please give me some feedback on the area? I am married with two kids, age 6 and 4. Is this a good area to raise a family?

Thanks

Why Darien? It is suburb that shares borders with about half a dozen other towns. Some, to the north and east, and signficantly more desirable. Some others about the same.

Will you be working in the suburbs or commuting to Chicago?

Do you want to rent or buy? What is your price range?

Darien has a good reputation and is a very quiet suburb.

Well, I am looking for a nice place for me and my family and it seemed that, based on my research, Darien was a great place for us. I understand that there are many other towns and cities in the area that would be sufficient as well. Thanks for your help

Darien...a good, quiet area. Depends on what you like. distance to city is 25-30 min, depending on rush hour traffic on I 355, 55 to the Dan Ryan. Lagrange is an area where you can get more bang for your buck housing wise, which is South suburbs...not deeeeeep South, But, be aware...its what you make of it, or vice versa.
Good luck!!!

I think you might need to take a look at a map - LaGrange is nowhere close to being a south suburb.

I lived in Darien for a few years in an apt. with my young son. I personally loved the area. Shopping is convenient and there are many restaurants to choose from nearby. It's not congested at all. My son attended kindergarten there and I had good experiences with the school district. I especially liked the before and after school care. I like that it's close to the expressway too! I would definitely recommend Darien!

Their motto is "A nice place to live". What more could you want.

RIGHT!

Chicago is "City in a garden". I guess "land of political intrique" was 2nd on the list!

Darien is hard to describe and its boundaries are definitely nondescript; it sort of runs into other suburbs which I think is what Chet E. was referring to... and I get his point.

Hinsdale South is the local high school and it's in the same high school district (86) as Hinsdale Central so it has an exceptionally strong "classic" (college prep) curricula with outstanding resources. District 86 is committed to balancing the investment and resources evenly among the two schools. "Generally" speaking, real estate costs a lot more in the HC attendance area than it does in the HS attendance area.

You'd have to drive around to know if it's the sort of "community" you're looking for. Are you moving from out of state?
