Does anyone have any idea what the price range would be for hiring an architect to design an addition to an existing home (approx. 12x14 space) ?

I was charged $1100.00 for a smaller addition and kitchen reconfiguration about 6 years ago. This was a detailed set of plans, the type you'd submit for a city permit.

Default Hiring an architect

Hello,

My name is James, and my business partner have had our own residential / small commercial architectural design firm for approx. 13 years. We have done many residential additions over the years. Each project is unique to the individual homeowners and the property. Our typical price range would be based on the age / condition of the home, the site parameters and how to best match the addition to the existing home design. On average the fee would be approximately $2,500 to design the addition, prepare the drawings and get the project through permitting for construction. Any questions, feel free to email me at designhs@aol.com

I have used guys like the above, and I have to say that while I have no direct experience with designhs, these kinds of offerings can work out fine. The key is to make sure that the guys KNOW THE LOCAL CODES and then you are golden.

I joked that instead paying "Jahn Helmut" prices I paid for "Joe with da' Helmet" prices for the plans that I needed to get a bedroom added to a two br rental property...
