Hi. We will be relocating to Illinois, and would like to know of any northern suburbs where the Eastern Europeans/Mediteranians live. Eastern orthodox churches are very important, as well as good schools, low crime and we'll be looking at a home price around $500,000. Any suggestions or thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for a particular ethnic affiliation?

There are three Eastern Orthodox churches in Des Plaines: Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral (Russian), St. John the Baptist Church (Greek), and St. Sophia Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church.

In Niles there is St. Michael's Church (Carpatho-Russian -- I don't even know what that means) and St. Taxiarhai - St. Haralambos Church (Greek Orthodox).

In Grayslake there is St. Lazarus Serbian Orthodox Parish.

In Lake Forest there is St. Basil of Ostrog Serbian Orthodox Church.

In Lincolnshire there is Ascension of Our Lord Greek Orthodox Church.

In Palatine there is Holy Resurrection Parish (American Orthodox) and St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church.

Hope this provides at least a decent starting point.
