Another time and place far away.

I'm sure it's the same here though if you look at middle class white suburbs. Are any of them anything like 50%? I'm guessing not. Maybe I'm wrong. To me that test was always a complete joke.

Oh Ok,I guess your generation focused on school more. Even New Trier(Winnetka) is at 87.6% for all subjects meet and exceed for 2008 from the stats.

Elementary & middle schools scores in general are better than high schools. Some students start falling off once 9th grade hit.

Ok maybe 50% it isn't as dismal as I thought. My kids are in private school so I've never really studied the public school numbers, assumed that 95% would be the norm in the suburbs.

You have to judge public & private schools on a different scale. If you are paying all that money to send the kids to private school, you expect to get your money worth. You be lucky to find a public high school that is over 90%.

I have to be honest with myself: if I couldn't afford private school I would be in Naperville. Maybe (hopefully) Oak Park or evanston, but more likely when everything is laid out it would be Naperville.

I think that depends on the families those kids are from. Are the Fathers active? Are they middle class or rich? For the most part, are they well behaved? If that's the case, it doesn't matter if the school is 50% black. How many schools are 50+% black and good schools compared to bad schools? Ask yourself why they become bad. There is your answer.

Lets be honest now. No matter what the income status blacks have, many white parents don't feel comfortable sending their children to a school that have ''too many'' blacks.
You are oversimplifying the issue. If you study standardized test results, you will find a near direct correlation between school performance and income and race, with few exceptions. You can choose to ignore this, and that's fine, but most middle and upper middle class parents do not, which is why the demographic mix in schools changes faster than the demographic mix of the community. Usually, the latter will change also, but slower, unless the schools are addressed.

Right, but how do you find out all of that information? Sounds almost impossible to me...

No, you can get demographic information on the student bodies of Illinois schools on the ISBE website. You can contact the school in question and ask how many expulsions they've had. And of course you can check ISAT scores, which will give you some insight on these things, since they directly correlate to performance.
