Yeah, and there's other exceptions like Oak Park and Park Ridge. But most of the inner Cook County suburbs suck.

This isn't true at all. Going west Cook County extends all the way to the Hinsdale. There are many VERY nice suburbs in Cook County. Some of the nicest.

Cook County certainly has a government I do not appreciate, and I believe the problem goes beyond just one man (Stroger), but most inner Cook County suburbs certainly do not suck. In fact, I would wager that the ratio of "nice suburbs" to not nice ones in Cook County is at least 2-1, if not 3-1. Do people really think that Skokie, Evanston, River Grove, Orland Park, Des Plaines, Niles, River Forest, and Lemont suck? If so, you really need to do something about your unrealistic standards.

Orland and Lemont aren't close enough to Chicago for me to call them "inner". I agree that they're nice places and so are the other ones you mentioned. I was thinking more along the lines of Cicero, Maywood, Melrose Park, Riverdale, Dolton, Harvey, Calumet City.

Dolton, Melrose park, and Calumet City are not that bad. They just are not high end places. Meaning the people that live here are making a decent income, just not 100,000 a year or more. They are just the modern day, non yupified working class neighborhood. Think union worker or maybe low to mid end office worker with family.

Maywood and Harvey are truly a slum on par with any slum located in the city. Cicero is in between. Cicero was always a working class industrial burb to begin with.

And this list ignores places like South Holland, Homewood, Flossmoor, County club hills. Which are nice places equally far from the city as Calumet City and Dolton.

No. It's about 50-50 at worst.

It depends on if he really means "inner ring" as in adjacent to the city, or if he is talking about all Cook County suburbs. I'd say that way more than half of the Cook County suburbs are nice, safe places.

I was speaking of those adjacent to the city that share part of their borders with the city.

All the Cook County burbs broken down are probably 66-75% decent to great and 25-33% crap to more than a bit shady.

I'd never say that about Calumet City...I just wouldn't.

I actually do not think Dolton is that bad. I'd live there with no qualms.
