Hi all! So according to Mapquest this commute isn't to bad. But I have heard about the notorious traffic in Naperville. Does anyone know realistically how long would a commute from Naperville to Hoffman Estates take?

Fact is, traffic is notorious through most of the Chicago area, especially Cook and DuPage counties (where Hoffman and Naperville are located, respectively). If you're doing it during standard commute hours, figure on about an hour. During light traffic, perhaps 35 minutes. These of course are loose estimates which can change depending on which parts of Naperville and Hoffman your departure/arrival points are.

I actually considered a job with a similar commute, so I think the hour estimate is accurate. Depending on your start and end point you could either take 59 straight up into Hoffman or take 355 to 90 and cut over. The highway might sound faster, but there are several congestion points in between that could affect the commute.

I think this is a bad idea. I would avoid this commute if you have a choice in the matter.

If you have no choice in the matter, its not the worst thing that could happen to you. But it will be frustrating, and worse in the winter and obviously at rush hours.

if you can work at slightly off times, it would be better.

I would probably stick with hwy 59 as well, or alternate between that and the highway and see which works best at different times.

Forget 59. It's stoplight-hell from Naperville all the way to Hoffman (and beyond in both directions). It used to take me half an hour to get from St. Charles to Hoffman on 59, and St. Charles is a lot closer to it than Naperville is. And this was 15 years ago before traffic REALLY started to suck.
