I got in a car accident last week which was my fault (fender bender). However, when the police officer came to fill out the report, I wasn't ticketed, nor was my driver's license taken. Is this standard? Or will I get a ticket somewhere down the road?

I am a bit concerened because I got ticketed by one of those cameras a few months ago (I guess I didn't stop the full 5 seconds before I turned right on red) and if I get a ticket now, it would be my second violation in a few months.

That's weird that you weren't ticketed. A lot of times they will give a ticket for failure to reduce speed, or too high of a speed for road conditions. As far as them not taking your liscense, I don't think they do that much anymore. The last 3 speeding tickets I have gotten, I've signed something that lets me not take my DL as a bond.

Good luck!

Tickets are mandatory. I was involved in a slight fender bender this Spring and wasnt ticketed. Then I was hit yesterday and that driver wasnt ticketed either.

Steve-O, did you mean they are not mandatory?

Ya you may not get a ticket. It is still your "Fault" when it comes in via insurance, but sometimes cops are nice and don't issue a ticket!

You're lucky! Be happy!

I got into a car accident in Connecticut when I rear ended a car. I didn't get a ticket but the insurance company determined I was at fault and dropped me. I was also sued by the driver and my insurance company settled out of court for $11,000.

Lightbulb automatic

Law is that if you rear-end someone, it's automatically your fault. I guess they figure you're going to pay enough in other ways for not paying attention.
