Hi....are there any "burger and a beer" type places in (or near) Hinsdale? THe places I see seem to be a bit upscale. That is fine when I am in the mood for that, but what if all you want is a burger and a beer?

Any suggestions?

Country House is probably the perfect place for "burger and beer": Country House - Google Maps

York Tavern is along the same lines:

Belluominis Spirits & Grill is right across from Hinsdale Central High Belluomini's Grill - Google Maps

There is also a store front Chinese place:Jade Dragon Restaurant - Google Maps

And a classic "little Greek owner all day diner" Grant Square Restaurant - Google Maps

Awesome. We are very seriously considering Hinsdale to live in, but we are pretty casual, and sometimes you just don't want to dress up to go out!

Emmett's Ale House : Dining/Pub (http://www.emmettsalehouse.com/dining_pub/dining_pub.php - broken link)

Emmetts Ale House in Downers Grove has a selection of beer and sandwiches - not too far from Hinsdale.

I have been stumped why DG has such spotty success with their downtown restaurants. There are other towns that have much more successful places. I sorta think it might be that too many of the owners of these places spend money on remodeling and do things is a too "big show" sorta way. Maybe they think the clientele in DG wants to have very "hand crafted with pride" looking spaces but to my way of thinking these business owners would do well to look at the success of places in Brookfield and LaGrange -- some of the same kind of places in those towns have been successes for DECADES and they certainly do not have any high end apperance items.

Similarly the York and Country House and especially Belluomini's have a very very "well worn" look to 'em. Somehow they make a ton of dough. Now the York has a nice position in the lunch / afterwork market, but really Emmett's is a BETTER location that any similar place other than Palmers in LaGrange, yet they do a fraction of the business, and their menu / prices are much less 'budget friendly', maybe LaGrange just has a more 'socializing' kind of crowd...

DG is too busy trying to emulate Naperville to cultivate any businesses other than big chains.

Tracy's Tavern on 55th and Western in Clarendon Hills!

Great Burger and reminds me of a dive bar from my college undergrad years.
