Same thing happens with Elgin and South Elgin.

Parts of aurora had big time Gang busts this year. They had gang wars going on for years that they feds could not get a hold on. They're in jail now.

I never quite understood why a portion of a city would annex itself or incorporate and then go ahead and still associate the new village name to what is frankly a tarnished perception like the aformentioned N Aurora or S. Elgin.

Totally different cities and really nice places to live but still tarnished by the stigma of the less desirable cities.

If you live in either city you almost always have to explain that you not actually part of Elgin or Aurora, they are vastly different areas (S. Elgin's Thornwood subdivision is one of the nicest around in the $400K-600K range), low crime, etc., but folks will still look at you with a bit of a stigma then if you stated you live in Geneva or St. Charles.

The prior poster hit the nail on the head when he mentioned that if N. Aurora was called S. Batavia or W Geneva you would probably see a 5-10% bump up in property values just based on this change alone.

Areas like Pingree Grove and soon Campton Hills at least have come up with their own brand new village names (Pingree Grove could easily be called West Elgin) so it makes you wonder what the logic may of the N. Aurora's or S. Elgin's of the world (perhaps they incorporated back in the old days when Elgin and Aurora were actually nice areas worthy of being associated to) and why they don't take a referendum to guage if their residents would like to perhaps change the name of their towns (I know I would but I live in Geneva so I am very happy name wise thank you very much

As for east Aurora, its pretty much a rundown slum. Faaaaar east sides near Naperville are decent, but near east side is not safe and is completely rundown. Crime is rampant in Aurora, mainly on the east, south, and near west sides. Far west Aurora is nice and is where most of the new, new, new homes are springing up (near Orchard Rd). I dont recommend Aurora, lets put it that way. Others will rise up and defend Aurora, but youd need to see it yourself, its not a great place to live unless you get a new place away from the center of the city.
I left Aurora in 1963; visited in 1981 and nothing has changed much. Everything is continuing to get more rundown. Visited again in 1997; same-same. So go West way West for the best area.
