I'm shocked by this. This is he first time I've heard of a Chief of Police being pistol-whipped by a cop from a neighboring town. Has Waukegan and North Chicago gone to the dogs? Where was the respect for this man's rank? Incredible.

Cop Carl Sain Charged With Beating Waukegan Police Chief Artis Yancey - cbs2chicago.com (http://cbs2chicago.com/local/cop.beats.cop.2.1055052.html - broken link)

Old news. And did you read the article? Respect for the mans rank? The man was sleeping with his wife. Why would you think this is representative of the Waukegan/N Chicago area? I don't get your post.

Yes, it is old news, but not to me since I obviously don't live in the area. Did you read the article? You tell me where it says that both men were off-duty. Struck me as a bit bizarre that two cops from neighboring towns, both on-duty, one a police chief, and that the cop would beat up the police chief.

The article says nothing about the police chief sleeping with the cop's wife, so this is your assumption. Also, the North Chicago cop and his wife were going through divorce proceedings.

Waukegan has gone downhill, so trying to find out if such an incident is a manifestation of this decline from the people who live in the area.

Off topic but are you from around here originally because it says you're from Northern California and I don't think you'd care if you weren't.

I guess that's what is binding people up here - Northern CA. I guess a person could only care about issues in a Chicago suburb if they actually are from the area? Only if a person is from the area is their inquiry worth addressing because it shows that they really care about what they're asking? Jesus Christ.

I grew up in Waukegan and went to school with Artis Yancey, the Chief who was pistol-whipped here. Obviously, this isn't the right forum to inquire about this topic.

It was a simple question, there was no hidden agenda although you seem to want to find one. I asked because you are from all the way across the country and this shouldn't be big enough news to make headlines over there so you would most likely have a connection over here to know about it not care.

No hidden agenda and I'm quite surprised at the responses. Guess I've been away far too long.

It was a simple inquiry and without knowing it, you have provided some answers. The Waukegan area has been ruined.

The beating of the Waukegan Police Chief, even though off-duty, by an off-duty North Chicago cop, is a manifestation of the decline of the quality of that place. If you have any insightful comments to shed some light on this since you live there, do so. Otherwise, continue to be evasive.

Maybe it isn't fair for me to assume that this event suggests that the Waukegan area has really become a dive. This is why I'm looking for insights from the people who live there. Thus far, I feel like I'm communicating with a bunch of cynical yahoos. Share your thoughts on the area.
