My husband and I are thinking of moving to Chicago soon from NYC and I really don't know which towns to start looking at. Our price range for a house/townhouse is no more than 250k. Please recommend cities to look at.

There are over 300 suburbs in Chicagoland (yes, you read that correctly), all spread across a GIGANTIC area. We'd need to know specifics as to what youre looking for...

Do you want to be close to Chicago? Far from it? Do you want a busy town? A quiet one? Where will you be working? Do you want public transporation? A short commute? Long commute? New community? Older, established community?

Sorry about that. Ok, my husband and I are in our late twenties and want to start a family soon(so good school district). We want to be close to downtown, but far enought away were it feels like a neighborhood. Train access is also important. How are property taxes? What is the range? That also depoends on where we end up.

By being "close to downtown", do you mean downtown Chicago, or the downtown of the suburb that youll be living in?

Property taxes are generally quite high, comparable to the NY area Im pretty sure, maybe even higher in places.

We moved to Chicago area two years ago. It is intimidating at first because of the size!

I would really consider living close to work. This area can really suck for traffic. I have colleagues who can spend 2 hours one way if traffic/weather are bad.

I work in Mt. Prospect and live in Arlington Heights. Ride a bike to work! Great area for family, yet close to city via drive or Metra train. Prices have come down quite a bit and you could find something decent in your range.

Good luck!
