From the southern WI area orginially, and relocating back to the midwest after living in PA for 6 years. Found a townhome to rent in Wauconda, IL until we find an area we like.

I will be at home with two small daughtes (6 months, 2 1/2 years) for awhile until we get a little bit more established. . .any suggestions on things to do? Restaurants in the area that are good? Any place to avoid?

Any info would be nice to start with.

Thanks!

Some nearby fun places would be the Lake County Discovery Museum (on route 176 toward Libertyville), McHenry Dam in Moraine Hills state park, Stades Farm (follow route 12 north past Fox Lake till its only 2 lanes and you will see signs for it), Volo Auto Museum and Bog, and swimming on local lakes is where my parents took me when I was growing up here.

Lakewood Preserve(Forest Preserve) and the bike paths through it are nice.

I used to live 5 miles outside of Wauconda, and went to Lakewood Forest Preserve alot ; your kids would enjoy the Ducks there and strolling around the path that goes around the larger of the 2 lakes (ponds) . Also, the Museum there is interesting as they have some stuffed animals and things for kids to do and see . There is also a playground or two there with things to go on. Its a safe family thing to do . In the winter, you can sled or toboggan down the gentle hills which are in front of the 2 ponds . Then theres the main lake in town with some beachy areas for swimming, sunning, and cook outs. I think Wauconda is a nice little town overall and has some urban as well as rural appeal .
