Does any one have any information about resources for children with Asperger's syndrome in the public school system in or near Chicago?

First of all please understand "Chicago and near Chicago" is a land mass more than twice the size of Los Angeles. Generally speaking where you work determines where you live which determines the school district. Not all school districts offer the same special ed services.

Chicago Public School District #299 (CPS) has over 400,000 K-12 students in 600 schools. The good news is you are moving into an area that offers excellent medical and university services.

While some consider Aspergers an autism spectrum disorder the range of function exhibited by many with Aspergers is signficiantly different than those that require the intervention of the most profoundly autistic.

In general a large percentage of children with Aspergers do quite well academically. It be wise to investigate districts with good resources for the academically talented AND a commitment to having enough social workers / school psychologists familiar with appropriate Aspergers intervention stratgies. Off the top of my head I woud start with districts like Naperville Unit 203, Downers Grove Elementary 58/High School 99,New Trier 203/ Wilmette 39 -- these are some of the larger better funded districts that generally have the kind of staff to help kids with the unique combination of traits that go along with Aspergers, though I don't know that you will find any school / district with a "concentration" so narrow...
