I vote every election. This election, with constant political advertising and the economy being in severe recession (or depression or total collapse, depending who you talk to) you would expect the turnout to be high. Yet officials are predicting low turnout.

Registered Independent. I always vote. Thoreau D. Bummsout is the only candidate with my full support this year. Whoever has the fewest corporate dollars and official party endorsements wins.

As the guy I am interested in probably doesn't need my vote to get through the primary, I will vote for what is, in my opinion, the weakest candidate on the other side.

Someone once tried to tell me I had weak ethics because of this practice. I thought it was a stupid comment. Using my legal vote to try and achieve an outcome I desire, is not in any way unethical.

Any thoughts on this practice?

My parents do this; I have no problem with it. As you say, it's your legal vote to do as you choose with.

Voting for a weak candidate is more ethical than writing in Mickey Mouse.

I will probably be voting today. I normally vote at every election.

I was thinking yesterday that I did not get one piece of information in the mail. I have searched web sites, and finding where candidates stand on certain thing... I just have not been able to locate all the info i need to make an 'educated' vote.

I know who i DONT want to vote for... but still trying to narrow it down... though i think i will be voting Republican.

I still have more research to do today....

I'll be voting today as I generally vote in every election. However, as I generally lean Democratic in my vote, so I'll be voting on that ballot today (I'm not tied to that though, especially when it comes to Chicago politics and regularly vote across party lines). However, I am leaning toward leaving the Governor spot blank as I dislike them both.

I honestly think that if the Republicans elect someone moderate (e.g. not that nasty McKenna character) they have a serious shot at the Governor's seat this fall. However, the GOP in Illinois has a history claiming defeat in the jaws of victory, so I doubt they have enough sense and I most likely find myself voting for Whitney (Green Party) like I did last time.

tcs1366 - Interesting you mention you didn't get anything in the mail. I've been drowning in mail and phone calls. Just yesterday there was someone camped out by my 'el' stop passing out campaign literature as we all exited the subway station.

Update - I just went down the street and voted. The polls are dead.

I am wondering where you live tsc! I have had so much political mail that I could start a bonfire!
I am glad I got my voting done early. It was very convenient. CCJ, I don't think what you are doing in unethical, I think voting, is a good thing. It is your right to cast that vote as you see fit. I agree that writing in mickey mouse is wrong. I just wonder if there was a way to tabulate all the money that has been spent on the advertising(print and other media) for this election! I guess we know which industries are flourishing in this recession.

Never voted in the primaries before until today. Today I woke up and raced over to the polling place as I would do ANYTHING to get Stroger OUT of office!!!
