In Illinois, convicted sex offenders have one year to register and then annually thereafter for ten years. Offenders drop off the radar after ten years.

Illinois does not require sellers, listing agents or buyer's agents to disclose this information, assuming it is known.

If asked, any and all parties have to respond truthfully. No way to prove what someone knew or not.

Can you please clarify? I thought Illinois was a doc-friendly state.

Oh I agree that agents aren't required to disclose this information. But...if you were a realtor and you knew(from local media) that a sex offender lived accross from a house(not your listing), would you show that house to your buyers? I'm guessing not.

In this case she knew that the neighbor was the reason. "My SIL who is a RE agent saw your house at the brokers open and just loved it, if your neighbor wasn't there she would have shown it to her relo people." were the comments she heard. The agents were just taking what infor they had and doing their best to protect their clients.
