Well, why not?

Need a handle on the OP's price range, what else is important besides open space and an appreciation for property taxes.

Several years ago my spouse and I were considering both Cary and Barrington. We chose Barrington because of the superior schools, the vitality of its village and the quality of its public services. We recognized that while one could buy much more house for the money in Cary, one also paid much more in taxes in Cary. We also bet that housing would hold its value better in Barrington. We are glad we chose Barrington. The recession has devastated Cary's school system with the closure of one elementary school and the near elimination of art and music. Additionally, a quick look at redfin or zillow will show that many houses in Cary are selling at 1998 - 2000 prices! Barrington's school district, having been managed prudently and with an abundance of resources made some cuts but nothing like Cary. And Barrington's housing market while showing some signs of softness has remained amazingly steady. We would pick Barrington over Cary again.
