Was he the one who's death sentence was dolled out by fellow inmates?

No. He got the lethal injection. He should have gotten a beating to the death.

You are thinking of Dahmer in Wisconsin. One inmate killed Dahmer and another guy.

And what if part of the cost is an innocent person being killed by the state?

I used to be a big proponent of the death penalty, but no more.
Too many inept defense attorneys and prosecutors who want to win at any cost (facts be damned).

265 people have been exonerated using DNA since 1989 (in 34 states). (http://www.innocenceproject.org/Cont...onerations.php)

Are there some people who deserve to die? Certainly. But I don't have enough faith in our judicial system to hand out that kind of punishment.

The simple question is this: What do we gain by executing criminals?

The cost is higher, we certainly haven't lowered the crime rate by doing so, and we've killed innocent people. It's so flawed it's hard to know where one would begin were they to "de-flaw" it.

Terrorist and Traitors deserve to die quikly when their value as "tattletale" has exceeded the cost to house them. I think everyone who is accused of committing a heinous crime deserves to be represented by a well qualified criminal attorney. If the person is convicted after a vigorous defense is mounted, it's*over unless his lawyer finds compelling evidence of wrong doing during the trial - such as jury tampering, incompetent judge, or something that unduly biased the jury.

Child Molestors are special circumstances. If they are convicted they go to general population; end of story. They cannot be rehabilitiated and they are not a productive member of society. My neighbor was doing his 12-year old daughter before she was 1-year old. He said thought he got her pregnant before he went to jail.

if Illinois is going to bring back the death penalty then it better be cheap! I like the idea of a tree, a rope, a borrowed horse and an unmarked grave dug by fellow prisoners.

So you simply choose to ignore that innocent people have been sentenced to die and subsequently killed? You're OK with that kind of injustice.

Only people that are beyond a shadow of a doubt guilty would be executed in my world.
