My fiance and I are relocating from Dayton to Chicago, somewhere near south loop for me to attend school at Columbia College Chicago. We would be moving sometime next year. The only problem is that I cant find an affordable apt near the school and I don't know anything about the near-by neighborhood to pick out a nice one. I need help finding a apt with 1 bedroom under 1,000. The cheaper the better since neither of us will have a job. My fiance is going to try and find a job doing graphic design before we move but I'm not sure how easy it is to find jobs in Chicago.

Thank you!!!!

You should easily find a 1bdrm for 1000 in the South Loop high rises, from what I've heard, they are desperate to rent out units in that area.

What are you looking on? Apartments.com is mostly fantasy in terms of pricing. Try the reader listings or craigslist

Apartments are cheaper in the Taylor street area, which is not to far from South Loop. I'm not sure about University Village, but I think you could find something below $1,000. If you really want to save money you could try east Pilsen, (East of Morgan st) 1br for under $600, but many would consider it roughing it.

$1000 is a bit low but I would say $1200-$1500 no problem.

This one basically is $1100 since it includes heat:

Housing for Rent | Real Estate | Chicago Reader Classifieds | LAUNDRY IN UNIT!

You could also look in Bridgeport. There's a red line train stop there that will take you right to Columbia. You could easily find a 1BR for under $1000 there.

Actually I looked at a highrise on Clark and State with a friend recently, and their one bedrooms start at $1800 and does not cover parking

There is great transportation to Columbia College so I would urge you to expand your vistas as to where you might want to reside. The South Loop area is trendy and hot but somewhat pricey. Check out around UIC.
