I'm moving to Chicago soon and I'm wondering if I should bring my car or not. It is a 2007 g35x, so pretty nice.. I plan to live in the Gold Coast area.

Any thoughts? Or do I really not need it at all?

Ok, so why do you have to say what kind of car it is? Why would it matter?

Besides there a plenty of threads that we have covered at length about owning a car.

You do not provide enough information for anyone to give you a yes or no.

If you can afford haing a car here do it. It is a waste of time for you and everyone involved to have anyone try to talk you out of it.

Well, let's say I had a beater.. There is little opportunity cost to sell it. Here I have a car that if I sold it, would get around 24-25k.

If there is very little benefit of having a car such as in NY, it is an easy decision to sell. But if there is a benefit to having car, it would make sense to keep it.

How often would I be driving in Chicago compared to walking?

That is impossible to say without knowing what area you will work in and how close youwill live to a grocery store...

1. for work, you dont need a car (unless youre willing to spend a few hundred $$ for parking in the Loop)
2. for eating-out, you dont need a car
3. is there anything else?

Living in the Gold Coast will provide plenty of access to public transportation so getting by without a car is perfectly doable. If you'd rather have your own car, expect to either roam around the street for anywhere between 20 minutes and 1 hour looking for a place to park whenever you come home, or be prepared to pay around $250/mo for off-street parking. Whether that's worth it depends on you and your budget priorities. Even if you get off-street parking, you'll inevitably end up parallel-parking on various streets while you run various errands or visit various places. Get some of this for your bumpers, or risk having them look like this after a couple years:

Oh yeah, side-street parking with a RWD car can be a right PITA.

EDIT: N/M, I missed the "x" after "G35." You'll be just fine driving in winter, including parking in spots that would vex 2WD cars.
