Hi, we are planning to visit Chicago, my husband would actually like to go this weekend. I've been doing a lot of reading online & trying to find things to do. I was hoping someone could possibly tell me the safest areas to travel to. We will be traveling w/ our 3 children 7, 5 & 3. I do know I want to take them to the childrens museum on navy pier and maybe a beach... Or if anyone have kids & have suggestions on some fun things that would be sweet Any info would be great! TIA!

Just about anywhere you go/stay as a visitor will be safe. The museums, shopping, navy pier area are all about as safe as you can be in Chicago. Stick to that area and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Well, we have had some problems with violence on the beaches, but I'm quite sure the little thugs were all fighting with the other little thugs, not attacking random beach goers.

To the OP, I would suggest going to Oak Street Beach, basically walk to Oak Street and Michigan Avenue, then walk under Lake Shore Drive and you're there.

Default Fun 4th recommendations

Given the ages of your children, you will probably want to see the fireworks at Navy Pier. They start at 9pm on Sunday 7/4.

In addition to Navy Pier, there are tons of fun things to do at Millenium Park. Kids like to run through the fountains and given how hot it will be this weekend that might be an idea. Millennium Park

You could stop at the taste while your at Millenium Park. Many people enjoy it but expect it to be hot and crowded. Taste of Chicago

I really love the sightseeing boat tours. They book up fast so plan ahead. I like wendella better than the big dog because big dog goes through the locks which tends to take forever. Deprecated Browser Error

While the Children's Museum is nice, given the ages of your children, I might suggest the Field, Shedd Aquarium or the Planetarium...much more to learn. The only one I don't suggest is the MCA...unless it's Tuesday and then it's free.

Lastly, given the weather for this weekend...a hotel with a pool is always fun!

Most of the tourist areas are completely safe and most hotels are located in these areas. Just be street smart.

Enjoy!

The lakefront is going to be jam packed this weekend because of the Taste and the 3 fireworks shows. I wish you all the luck. Personally, if I had kids, I would pick a weekend when no large event is going on around the lakefront.
