66th seems awfully far south to venture. You'd be better off three blocks north and east of Cottage. The new dorm, for example, is on 61st and Ellis which while only 5 blocks north is a world away from the Plaisance.
The intersection is S Woodlawn Ave & Marquette

which intersection?
i remember looking it up once and its not the best area.
so that really is the rub. green line in general is not great.
if the area around the el takes off
then that will help the area quite alot.

i think stickies attached to the most popular neigborhoods
makes the most sense perhaps in a subfolder
or just in this one.

trying to dig up old threads here can be like finding a needle
in a haystack.

63rd and cottage grove chicago, il - Google Maps

Bunch of check cashing places,
liquor store, dollar store, city sports store
at that EL stop.

Not great. But it is very close to U of C
and there is alot of building going on and planned
in the future south of 60th.

So i think longterm the area will improve.
But yeah basically you have hydepark surrounded by some
improving areas, namely woodlawn and kenwood
the west is still big bad west of washington park
so that is ofcourse a major drawback.

The pressure for improvement will occur
when other neighborhoods that are being
gentrified now get to pricey
forcing people to look elsewhere.
Alot of factors really, depends on price of gas too.

For what it's worth, I drive by all the time and notice that a white family with young kids owns a large house on decent-sized lot on that corner. Might knock on the door and ask "what's it like being white here"? They don't seem to have any special security.

I went walking on E 63rd st from S Cottage Grove Ave to S Woodlawn Ave and it looks pretty depressing
However I see a lot of potential for the right type of investment's
Maybe a Supermarket, a department store i.e (Target), a few fast food restaurants, a few themed restaurants i.e (Olive Garden,Denny's, Portillo's) ,a sports bar, a blues bar, a good bookstore, a large Walgreen's and so on and so on.
E 63rd st from S Cottage Grove Ave to N Woodlawn Ave is a clean slate with a lot of potential.

The Green Line leading to the Woodlawn Neighborhood has gotten a lot better with the destruction of Stateway Gardens & Robert Taylor Homes and it's harder for people from Englewood to get to Woodlawn on the Green Line

haha. You can't put stuff like that on 63rd street -- it will be overrun by ghetto people. Maybe a coffee shop -- that's about it. I don't expect much useful commercial development. There are two good coffee shops on 61st street (believe it or not -- well hidden). Beyond that, it's a stretch to imagine.

Backstory is very cool, what is the other cafe?
So it really it looks like the development of some
neigborhood vibe/retail on 63rd will really
be the catalyst for major improvement
and "gentrification" of woodlawn.

Because its really not a destination,
Also the continued gentrification and development of hydepark
will cause people to seek out and improve
the housing stock of woodlawn.

The U of C expansion and investment ofcourse
will be invaluable to the improvement of the area.

When you look at el stops,
isnt the one at 63rd and cottage grove
the most likely to get better first?
All the other ones near U of C are in
washington park,
When you look at it
that section of 63rd has everything going for it
Its right by U of C, it has the metra and El stop
and its by the lake.
