I've actually never been to a Costco (and didn't realize there were any in Chicago.)

Is it really that much cheaper that a membership is worthwhile?

Okay, just happened across Peapod and I'm curious what others think about it?

Being able to price-shop online is SO much faster than having to scan shelves... And some of these prices are nearly Aldi-low... (1% gallon of milk is $1.99!)

I see there's a $60 minimum order, but that's obviously not a big deal with prices this good. I'd stock up for weeks... Is there some ridiculous delivery fee that negates all these great savings?

*edit - Looks like the service charge is right around $10, plus a minimal gas surcharge. I'd think for a reasonably-sized order, this would still be incredibly cost-effective...

Don't think you can get away without a tip.

Ahh, I kind of assumed the service charge was the automatically-added tip. Yeah, after a 15-20% tip on a $60 order, plus the other charges, it's becoming less appealing.

Besides, 20 cents is not that big of a difference in most people's minds.

Also, where were both of these stores located?
I don't know how much gallons cost because I buy half gallons. Yes, 20 cents isn't a big difference, but people were telling the OP where the Jewels were. It seems reasonable then to also look into the Whole Foods on Huron if all you're getting is stuff like milk and pasta.

The stores I go to are in East Lakeview.

No, it is not. It especially is not when you are dealing with a large company.

Do you feel this way when ordering pizza?

Oh good, another sassy remark!

Everyone has ordered pizza before at some time in their life. It's pretty well-known how those places operate.

I've never ordered delivery groceries before, and have almost no idea how it works.

Thanks for your response, though!

I do not think it was "sassy." It seems like a an honest question to me. There are people that do not believe in tipping anyone that delivers anything to them.

I wouldn't recommend peapod, they are a little pricey. However, there are several "farm to doorstep" type places that cater to city dwellers. They will deliver boxes of vegetables to your door weekly/biweekly/monthly etc. They are a pretty good deal, if you like eating a variety of vegetables. You don't have to tip either as they generally leave them there like 4-5 in the morning.
