Homewood-Flossmoor is ''changing''. Not sure what your commute to work requirements are, but the further west to southwest you go, you may find something you like...west Oak Lawn to west/southwest from there...

to the op. Try Tinley park. Easy access to interstates 57 and 80, safe, neighboring Orland hills has a walmart and meijers and if your speaking of either ford at Chicago Heights or the Chicago location of hegewisch, you wont have a long ridiculous drive.

Actually, the Ford plant is on the far far east side of Chicago Heights. You aren't in Ford Heights until you cross over to the other side of Cottage Grove Avenue. The Ford plant is located on the southwest corner of Lincoln Highway and Cottage Grove. A while back, the village of East Chicago Heights changed its name to Ford Heights in hopes of a better future. I think it's sad that the town was re-named after something that isn't actually inside the village limits.

I currently live in Munster and commute. If you are staying awhile, Munster is a quiet community. There's a Target, Panera Bread, Hospital and the best schools around. Munster is an affluent community of around 21,000.
