Well, I can understand that to some extent. To many, the mindset is, "cycles/walks/EL to work? Must be poor."

Some people are baffled that I have started doing many of my errands and even transportation to work via bicycle.

And no, I am not turning into a Jesse69. I'm just a cheap bastard who doesn't mind saving money.

Clearly these folks have never seen some of the pricey bikes for sale at shops in LP!

Sound like your co-workers don't know anything about city life, especially on the northside where most of the more walkable hoods are at.

But you gotta admit, the EL trains do look like the poor man's ride and can use some 21st century updating. The subways/metro train in Europe and Tokyo look more "sophisticated". Seattle trains look nice too. Well for right now, we have the metra for suburbanites and some city dwellers, but it only runs once an hour.

Like one of these badboys I've been trying to build out of a cardboard box because the price is completely unattainable for 99% of cyclists.

That thing looks scary to ride. Imagine coming up to a blind intersection, you inch out your children ahead of you so you can see if cars are coming...

Yes, but it may have nothing to do with where you live or whether or not you ride the L.
